Santa Clara / Aires Mateus

Designed by Aires Mateus, the Santa Clara project represents the restoration of a building with indefinite history at the heart of Lisbon. A building that experiences the city, not through the reproduction of traditional elements, but through the recombination of materials, atmospheres and proportions that restore this idea of experience. An architecture that combines few elements, but that seeks quality in the use of real materials, an idea of authentic and, therefore, timeless.

Sitting at the top floor of Galeries Lafayette Beaugrennelle, Grand Beau introduces an intimate decor with a natural and warm colours, designed by Studio Delphine Sauvaget. A committed table, 100% organic, made of seasonal French products and accessible to all. It was with this spirit in mind that the architect imagined the place, playing with the materials and colours. A peaceful setting that places nature at the center of it all, including food.

Overlooking Zêzere glacial valley in Serra da Estrela at 1200m we can find Burel Panorama Hotel, an ambitious renovation project led by P-06 Atelier and Site Specific Arquitectura with the intent of combining the work of modern architects with traditional techniques typical of that region. The use of burel, a local product, and the reuse of original designs and furniture become the guiding line that gives unity to the multiple spaces created, in line with the history and landscape that surrounds the new hotel.

Consisting on the rehabilitation of a residential building from the end of the XIX century, the Late Birds, designed by architect Pedro Domingos, is a hotel inserted in the urban fabric of Bairro Alto, in Lisbon. Requiring a deep intervention due to its advanced state of degradation, the rehabilitation sought to establish a dialogue between the restored elements and the new structure, between the historic city and the new construction.

An apartment that has long served as a tannery, 3 Apartamentos Pombalinos follow the principle of maintaining the pre-modern logic of circulation between divisions. Without corridors or small spaces, making the intervention compatible with the existing compartments and minimising the need for demolition, in order to preserve the integrity of the existing structure. Aurora Arquitectos reinvents the architecture of Pombaline interiors by selecting some of its main features - poorly decorated spaces, modular use of construction elements and interior and exterior spans as the main elements of architectural characterization.
